Lincoln Hall at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign opened in 1911 as a memorial to the sixteenth president of the United States, but had not had a renovation since 1930 when the western wing has added. It is the second most heavily used classroom building on campus and home to Liberal Arts and Science. This renovation preserves its historic landmark characteristics to once again occupy a central point of Illini pride on campus.

The exterior landscape maintains the historic flavor of the quad by replacing the existing yew hedge, preserving and adding major shade trees, and planting new ornamentals. The two courtyards, which are interior to the building but open to the elements, are designed to be sympathetic to the new modern glass curtain wall incorporated into one of the internal facades. The courtyards pictured above are designed for circulation, contemplation, and socializing. There are two small green roof areas which were deisgned as sedum meadows.

Jacobs/Ryan Associates prepared design concepts, developed the design, including hardscape materials, and made scheduled submittals for the CDB and UIUC review processes. Services continued through bid assistance and construction administration, including tagging of plant materials. The project has been awarded LEED Platinum for its sustainable features.
